When we started selling beef shares, I quickly realized there is a lot of people who have no idea what that even is! Growing up in the agricultural communities, we have always had beef in our freezer it's how I was raised. This blog post is going to inform you what exactly beef shares are and how much space you will need to in freezer space to accommodate it.
When you buy a beef share you are purchasing a cow either a whole, half or quarter directly from a farmer or rancher. This is a bulk beef option to fill your freezer, which in the long run ends up being cheaper than if you were to buy the same amount of beef from your chain grocery store. It is also better quality meat and the animals are treated with respect and live their lives stress free.
Quarter Beef
When you order 1/4 of beef you can expect to get roughly 120-175 lbs of cut and wrapped meat into your freezer. You will need roughly 10 cubic feet of freezer space to fit it all
Approximate cost $1200
Half Beef
When you order 1/2 of beef you can expect roughly 350-400lbs of meat. This is generally enough meat for 18 months of so for a family of 4. You will need 20 cubic feet of freezer space
Approximate cost $2400
We work with some really great butchers in our area. However if you have a butcher you would prefer to use, we are happy to haul to your butcher of choice.
This picture will give you a rough estimate of what you can expect. Please keep in mind these are estimates! All the animals, breed etc have different compositions!
